Use Xpenses with ChatGPT and Claude

Connect Xpenses to ChatGPT or Claude and ask about your own numbers: what you will have at month end, what is due this week, what you can spend a day. Read-only, disconnect any time.

Updated: November 3, 2026

You can connect Xpenses to ChatGPT or Claude and ask about your own numbers in plain words: "how much will I have at the end of the month?", "what do I have to pay this week?", "can I afford a 300 dinner on Friday?". The assistant reads the answer from your Xpenses account instead of guessing, and it cannot change anything.

What you can ask

  • "How much will I have left at the end of the month?" The month-end forecast per account and in total, as on your dashboard. Also for next month, or a past one.
  • "How much can I spend a day until payday?" What is spendable today, minus the bills still to pay before your next salary, divided by the days left.
  • "What is due this week?" "Is the rent paid?" Unpaid bills from today on, overdue ones first, with their due dates.
  • "Where does my money go?" "How much do I spend a month?" The month's income, expenses and net, and expenses by category.

Because the assistant gets real figures, it can also reason with them: "if I add a 40 gym membership, do I still end the month above 500?"

What it can and cannot see

ReadsNever does
Your forecast, your bills and income with their amounts and due dates, your accounts' names and month totals, in the wallet you have openPay, add, change or delete anything; read other wallets; see your password or any bank login (Xpenses has none)

What the assistant reads is processed by its provider (OpenAI for ChatGPT, Anthropic for Claude) under its own terms, like anything else you type in that chat. You choose to connect it, you see a consent screen first, and you can disconnect it at any time.

Connect it to Claude

  1. In Claude (web or desktop), open Customize > Connectors, click + Add and then Add custom connector.
  2. Name it Xpenses and enter the URL https://xpenses.app/mcp.
  3. Sign in to Xpenses when asked and tap Allow on the Xpenses consent screen.
  4. In a chat, turn the connector on from the + button, Connectors, and ask your question.

Custom connectors work on Claude's free plan too (one connector) and on every paid plan. On Team and Enterprise plans an owner adds it for the organisation first.

Connect it to ChatGPT

Until Xpenses is listed in ChatGPT's app directory, connecting it uses ChatGPT's developer mode, on the web, with a Plus or Pro plan:

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings > Apps > Advanced settings and turn on Developer mode.
  2. Create an app with the URL https://xpenses.app/mcp and OAuth as the authentication.
  3. Sign in to Xpenses when asked and tap Allow.
  4. In a chat, pick Xpenses from the + menu and ask.

Disconnect it

In Xpenses, open Settings: the AI assistants section lists every assistant you connected, with a Disconnect button. It stops reading at once. You can also remove the connector in Claude or ChatGPT. Deleting your Xpenses account disconnects them all.

Questions

  • Does it cost anything? No: it works on Xpenses' free plan too.
  • Which wallet does it read? The one you have open in Xpenses. Switch wallets in the app and the assistant reads the other one.
  • Can it mark a bill as paid? Not yet: for now it only reads. Paying stays one tap in the app.
  • Other assistants? Any assistant that supports remote MCP with OAuth may work; we test with ChatGPT and Claude. Developers: the server is https://xpenses.app/mcp (streamable HTTP, OAuth 2.1 with PKCE and dynamic client registration, discovery at /.well-known/oauth-protected-resource).
