The general minimum wage in B.C. is $18.25 an hour since June 1, 2026, up from $17.85. By law it rises every June 1 in line with the previous year's B.C. inflation; the June 2027 rate has not been announced yet.

For 2026, B.C. taxes income in seven brackets, from 5.6 % on the first $50,363 to 20.5 % on income above $265,545. The lowest rate went up from 5.06 % to 5.6 % for 2026, so payroll withholding from July uses a higher prorated rate to catch up. The B.C. basic personal amount is $13,216.

Most purchases in B.C. carry the 5 % federal GST plus the 7 % provincial sales tax, 12 % in total.

What income does rent in British Columbia take?

A common guideline is to keep housing at or below 30 % of gross income. At $2,053 a month, that means a household income of about $82,100 a year before tax.
