Enter an amount and a percentage to get that percentage of the amount, and the amount with the percentage added or taken off. Add a second amount to see the percent change between the two.
The percent change is (new − old) / old × 100. Going from 200 to 230 is +15 %; going back from 230 to 200 is −13 %.
Frequently asked questions
Why is a rise and the same fall not symmetric?
Because each percentage is calculated on a different starting amount. +10 % and then −10 % leaves you at 99 % of where you started.
How do I find the price before tax?
Divide the price by 1 plus the tax rate: with 8.1 % VAT, 108.10 / 1.081 = 100.
What is a percentage point?
The difference between two percentages: from 2 % to 3 % is one percentage point, but a 50 % increase.
