Switching budgeting apps usually stalls for one reason: typing everything in again. With Xpenses you don't. Export the history from your app or your bank, upload it, and Xpenses finds what repeats (rent, utilities, subscriptions, salary) and offers it ready-made: amount, how often and which day. You review it, untick what you no longer pay, and two minutes later you have your month-end forecast.
Guides per app
- Switch from Fintonic to Xpenses
- Switch from Spendee to Xpenses
- Switch from Wallet by BudgetBakers to Xpenses
- Switch from YNAB to Xpenses
How it works
- Export your transactions as CSV or Excel (how to do it in each app is below).
- In Xpenses, go to Settings, "Import from another app or your bank", and upload the file.
- Review what we found: you can change names, amounts, how often and the category.
- Tap "Add". The items start this month, unpaid.
We don't copy every coffee or every purchase, only what repeats, which is what a forecast needs. With twelve months of history we also find quarterly and yearly bills. Importing is free on every plan.
From YNAB
- Open YNAB on the web (exporting is not available in the mobile app).
- Click your plan's name at the top left, then Export Plan.
- You get two files: upload the one with your transactions (Register).
From Spendee
- Open the mobile app (Spendee's web app cannot export).
- More, Export.
- Choose the accounts and the period, and CSV or XLS.
Spendee's free plan exports the last 365 days; Plus and Premium have no limit.
From Wallet by BudgetBakers
- Open Wallet's web app and go to Records.
- Filter the period, select all records and click Export.
- Choose CSV or XLS.
In Wallet, exporting is a Premium feature.
From Fintonic
Fintonic announced in 2018 that movements can be downloaded as an Excel file. Some users report the download failing; if it does, download the movements from your bank's website instead: it is the same data.
From your bank
Almost every bank lets you download your account movements as Excel or CSV from its website. Download six to twelve months.
From a spreadsheet
If you track your budget in Excel or Google Sheets, one row per bill with a name and an amount works, plus how often (monthly, quarterly, yearly) and the due day if you have them. A list of transactions with date, description and amount works too.
Your data
The file is only used to find your bills; nothing is saved until you tap "Add". And you can export everything you have in Xpenses whenever you like, for free.
