The month-end forecast: what you will have left

How Xpenses works out what you will have at the end of the month, what each figure in the header means and how to look at next month.

Updated: November 4, 2026

The big number at the top is what your accounts will hold on the last day of the month once every bill and income you planned has gone through. It is a forecast, not a guess: it adds up figures you gave Xpenses.

The month end, a bill paid with one tap, and next month.

How it is worked out

For the current month:

  • Start from today's balance of each account (the balance you typed, plus every payment marked since).
  • Take away every bill still unpaid this month and add every income still to come.

That is why ticking a bill as paid does not change the month-end figure: the money moves from "still to pay" into the balance, and the result is the same. What changes it is a new bill, a different amount, or a balance that was not right.

The figures in the orange card

  • You will have at month end: the forecast for all your accounts together (accounts kept out of the total are left out, see accounts).
  • The line below: what you can spend a day until your next salary, or how much is missing before it. How the daily amount works.
  • Incomes and Expenses: everything planned for this month, paid or not.
  • This month: incomes minus expenses. Positive means the month adds to your savings.

Each account

Under Bank Accounts, each account has its own card: the balance today, what it will hold at month end, and its incomes and expenses this month. With Pro, the card also shows the curve of the month day by day and its lowest point, so you see a dip before the salary arrives.

Next months and past months

Tap the arrows next to the month name. In a future month, the forecast carries on from this month: it counts everything still unpaid from now until then. In a past month you see what happened: the payments you marked.

The next month: its own month-end forecast.

Tap the month's name to open the year view, with the balance at the end of every month.

When the number looks wrong

  • Today's balance is off: correct it in the account (⋯ > Edit > Balance today). Xpenses works out the rest.
  • A bill is missing or has an old amount: add it or edit it. An edit applies from the month you are looking at, so past months stay as they were.
  • A bill you already paid is still pending: tick it. Until then Xpenses assumes it is still to pay.
