Back from the shop with a receipt? Instead of typing it, let Xpenses read it: the shop's name, the total and the date go straight into a new expense. The receipt is read on your phone or computer; the picture is never uploaded or stored.
Step by step
- Tap + to add an expense.
- At the top of the sheet, tap Read a receipt or invoice.
- Take a photo of the receipt, or choose a photo, a screenshot or a PDF.
- Wait a few seconds while it reads (Reading the receipt…). The first time takes longer: the reader is loaded once.
- Check the Name, the Amount and Paid on, change what is wrong, and tap Accept.
Under the button, Xpenses says how sure it is. Total confirmed by the payment line means it found the same amount twice on the receipt (the total and the card payment), so it is very likely right.
What it does with the receipt
- One receipt becomes one expense, already paid, for its total. The lines (bread, milk…) are not added one by one.
- The receipt's date goes into Paid on: the expense lands in that month and the payment on that day, up to two years back. A receipt from last month goes to last month.
- Add a category if you want it in Expenses by category.
For a good reading
- The whole receipt in the picture, including the total, in good light, without folds over the numbers. A slightly tilted photo is fine.
- A digital invoice in PDF is the most reliable: its own text is used, not a photo of it.
- A screenshot of an online order or an e-mail works too.
If something is misread, just correct it before saving: nothing is saved until you tap Accept.
Privacy
The text recognition runs in your browser or in the app. Xpenses' server only receives the words that were read, to find the shop, the total and the date, and keeps nothing but the expense you save.
