Add bills and income

Monthly, weekly, every few months or once: how to add a bill or an income, give it a due day and a category, change it from this month on, or stop it.

Updated: November 4, 2026

In Xpenses a bill is written down once and repeats on its own: the rent every month, the water every two months, the car insurance every year. The same goes for income. You only change it when something changes.

Adding a bill: name, amount, due day, and the month end updates.

Add a bill or an income

  1. Tap the + next to Expenses or Incomes, or the orange + at the bottom of the screen and choose the type.
  2. Give it a Name ("Rent", "Electricity", "Salary") and an Amount. For a bill that varies, use what it usually costs; you can pay the real amount later.
  3. Choose the Account it is paid from or into, if you have more than one.
  4. Choose how often it repeats (below).
  5. Optionally, the Due day and a Category. Then Accept.
The add sheet filled in: name, amount, account, repeat and due day.

The bill starts in the month you are looking at. To plan something that starts in March, go to March first and add it there.

How often: Repeat

ChooseFor
Every monthRent, salary, phone, subscriptions.
Each 2 months … Each 11 monthsBills that come every few months: water, quarterly taxes (each 3 months), school terms.
Every yearCar or home insurance, a yearly subscription, a tax bill.
Every week or Every 2 weeksThe weekly shop, a cleaner, wages paid every two weeks. First time sets the day of the week; each week becomes its own line to tick.
NoSomething that happens once: a repair, a concert ticket, a birthday present. It is saved as already paid, on the day in Paid on (today if you leave it empty).

Due day and category

The Due day is the day of the month a bill is charged. It sorts the list (next bills first), marks a bill as late once the day has passed, triggers the reminder on that day, and puts the bill on the right day in the daily forecast. On the 31st it falls on the last day of shorter months. Without a day, Xpenses plays it safe: it counts an expense from the 1st and an income on the last day.

Categories (housing, groceries, insurance…) are optional. Once you use them, the dashboard shows Expenses by category. Add, rename or delete categories in Settings.

Change, stop or delete

Tap a bill's name to see its options:

A bill's options: pay, edit, don't repeat after this month, delete.
  • Edit: a new amount, account or interval applies from the month you are looking at. Earlier months keep the old amount, so your history stays true. A new name changes everywhere.
  • Don't repeat after (this month): the bill ends after the month on screen. Use it when you cancel a subscription or move house. Past months keep it.
  • Delete: removes the bill and the payments you marked for it, in every month, as if it had never existed. Use it for mistakes, not for something that ended.

Tip: a price rise from January? Go to January, edit the amount, and the months before keep the old price.
