Getting started with Xpenses

Create your account, start from a template or your own bills, tell Xpenses what your account holds today and tick your first payment.

Updated: November 4, 2026

Xpenses answers one question: how much will you have left at the end of the month? You tell it your bills and your income once, tick each bill as you pay it, and it keeps the answer up to date. Setting it up takes a few minutes.

Xpenses in 35 seconds: the month end, a bill paid, a receipt, the year.

1. Try it, or create your account

To look around first, open the home page and choose Try it without signing up: you get an example household with bills already planned. Nothing you do there is kept. When you are ready, Create my account takes you to the sign-up form.

You can sign up with your e-mail and a password, or with Google or Apple. Your language and currency come from the site you signed up on, and you can change both later in Settings.

2. Put in your bills

An empty account shows a few ways to start:

  • A template (couple, shared flat, student, family): a list of typical bills with example amounts. You see the list first, change the amounts, untick what you do not have, and only then is anything saved.
  • Import a file from another app, your bank or a spreadsheet: Xpenses finds what repeats. See importing.
  • Add by hand: rent, salary, phone, insurance. See adding bills and income.

Start with the big ones: income, rent or mortgage, insurance, energy, phone and subscriptions. Five or six bills already give a useful forecast; you can add the small ones later.

3. Tell it what your account holds today

The forecast starts from today's balance. If you started from a template or an import, Xpenses created an account called "Main account" and asks for that balance in the checklist at the top of the screen. Type what your banking app shows today. You can change it any time by tapping the account's ⋯ and then Edit (accounts and balances).

The account card: balance today, the curve of the month, the lowest point and the month end.

4. Tick your first payment

Each bill has a round button on the right. When a bill has been paid, tap it: the bill moves to Paid, and the amount moves from "still to pay" to your account's balance. The month-end figure stays the same, because it already counted that bill. See marking bills as paid.

5. Read the top of the screen

The top of the screen: what you will have at month end, the amount per day until payday, incomes, expenses and the month's balance.

The orange card is the answer: You will have at month end. Below it, how much you can spend a day until your next salary, and the month's incomes, expenses and difference. The arrows next to the month show the next months. How the forecast works.

What is free and what is Pro

The forecast, bills and payments, the daily amount, receipts, imports, goals, the year view and export are free. Pro adds the day-by-day forecast with a warning before an account goes below zero, sharing with your partner, more than one bank account, the monthly report and matching bank statements to your bills.
